Through a long and winding path of self-introspection and frustration experienced throughout different phases of my career, I came to the realization that I just wanted to feel significant and help others feel significant as well. Believe me when I say it took many years to finally figure out this seemingly simplistic fact.
In assessing when I felt my best and worst in my professional life, I was able to directly correlate my lowest moments with actions/words that made me feel my contributions were not valued and questioned my competence. Likewise, when I felt I was operating at my best, it could be clearly linked with the support and recognition of others that my ideas and actions made a positive difference and were valued. When I was fully engaged in a task, it showed.
In assessing when I was at my best, I realized that my confidence level was high and my actions also elevated those around me. So, I began to wonder what would happen if EVERYONE in the organization were able to be their ‘best person’ throughout the workday, each day. Wouldn’t that be a great organization to work for? Wouldn’t that be a job you would wake up each day looking forward to what was about to come your way? So, how do we make that vision a reality? I believe we need to take a holistic approach to managing our own careers and our human resources. As leaders we need to make sure we provide a purpose that our employees can aspire to achieve.
If you aren’t feeling your physical or mental best; or are struggling financially, how can you be your best self and maximize your work contributions. Many will think they are effectively compartmentalizing their lives in this manner, but it is an unsustainable practice over the long haul and often we overestimate our abilities in successfully accomplishing this objective. So why not address the root cause head on and help our employees reach their maximum level of overall wellbeing? It is less expensive than the cost of chronic conditions, high dollar medications and absenteeism (or even presenteeism).
This is why at HolisticResources, we focus on the overall wellbeing of your employee base to provide programs and recommendations that help you create a culture where each person can be their personal best in wellness. Physically, emotionally and financially. We identify opportunities for improving the overall strength of your leadership team as well. Showing them how to create higher levels of engagement among their staff. The final piece in the puzzle is alignment, which I believe is generated from your aspirational purpose for the company, which we will make sure you are able to verbalize whether you chose to utilize our services or not.
